Re: [papercreters] solarpower portable generators

Those look to be very expensive for what you get.

This one -
http://www.antaressunstar.com/PORTABLE-SOLAR-GENERATOR-SunXgen1000W-BATTERY-NOT-INCLUDE-sunxgen1000-1.htm says it is a 1,000w unit, but in actuality it only has 180 watts of solar panels, a 1,000w inverter, and some cables.  Panels are worth about $.50/watt nowadays, so call the two panels $100. Inverter/controllers in that size run $200-$400.

It appears that they are selling you $500 worth of components, a bit of cable, and a dolly to move it around, for $1,550, no battery included. And those are retail prices, they are buying the components cheaper at wholesale. You could probably do a lot better for your money by buying the panels and controller/inverter separately elsewhere.

I expected them to be misleading just from the title "Solar Power Generator" that sounds like something besides some panels and a battery.

But Wait!  "Expanded to  240 WATTS with 4- 60 Watts  solar panel  and 50 Ft cable for the same price. Battery not included."  Call in the next ten minutes and we'll give you not only 180 watts of panels, but we'll throw in another 60 watts for free! Sound much like a Ronco commercial?

"The 5-inch rubber wheels, meanwhile, roll smoothly on virtually any surface, from pavement to trim carpet to linoleum. "  - How about outside, on dirt? My building site isn't paved.

IMO you could do better elsewhere.
